Summer Dress
Butterick 5053 Misses' Top was lengthened to dress length. The sleeves were widen about two inches to get the look. It took more time than I expected as I had to make adjustments to the tummy area. Polyester/Spandex $1 per yard fabric purchased about four years ago from Walmart was used. It has a satin finish.

Granddaughter's First Sewing Lesson

It was very interesting to share a craft that has passed from my mom, to me, my daughter, and now my only granddaughter. The first thing that she wanted to know was, " Are you going to give me any rules?" Typical five year old that's heading to kindergarten. After the rules, I placed my fingers on top of her finger, placed some fabric between the petals to slow the machine and off we went on the journey. She stitched the shoulder seams and both sides of the top before she mentioned wanting to watch television. That was as much sewing as she could take for one day.I thought to myself, "Oh boy, she'll never want to do this again!"
Believe it or not, four days later, 10:30 P.M. after rambling through my sewing machine attachment box, playing with the tape measure, putting her tiny hands on every sewing item she could find, I watched as she proceeded to lift the cover on the sewing machine. I asked, "Are you wanting to sew?" To my amazement she replied, "Yes!" Off we went again, the rules, deciding which design she would use first, second, and third, until she had stitched around a square scrap of denim from her short set. It became later and later as she was not thinking of sleeping, but making a hand puppet with yarn hair, eyes, a nose, and mouth.  Enthusiastically, discussing how we needed to make the mom and the dad to go with the daughter.

From there she became Project Runway's Designer Princess Yas with scraps. What a sight! Bad grandparents and grandchild went to bed at 2:00 A.M. What a night!
