Carefree Top

McCall's 6367 tops in sizes 6-24, copyrighted in 1978, was thrifted a few months ago. A family member liked it and wanted it.

Lime cotton fabric and clear buttons were used.
The gathers were removed from the yoke front and back by folding the adjusted amount of the front and back pattern pieces. Topstitching the front yoke and back yoke were omitted and I slipstitched instead.

Note: Ms Sally's hips are adjusted three inches larger than the person for whom the top was created. I try not to adjust her too much trying to keep her in tack.

Teal Outfit!

Butterick 5720 jacket and Butterick 5147 dress made of teal crepe and lined with black polyester. An invisible zipper was installed in the dress.

The outfit was made for a friend's birthday.

Adjustments were made to the jacket and dress by shortening the length to waist by two inches and it was returned to me to adjust each side of the dress by 1 1/2 inches.

Ruffled Front Shirt!

Butterick 5464 comes in sizes 6-20 and four styles. This is listed as an easy loose-fitting blouse, a front band with button closing, curved side bottoms, and sleeveless with collar band..The completed top is view B made in nylon poplin bright deep aquamarine, turquoise 61" wide purchased from Fabric Mart online store. The buttons and thread were purchased from JoAnn Fabrics.

Instead of using bias tap for the armholes, I cut facings using the armhole designs and added seam allowances. The first three pictures are the exact color of the fabric.

Two inches were added to the waist length to equal eighteen inches. Yes, this would be a dream of mine to be as tall as she is (a never in this lifetime dream.)

This is a fun top to make and I think it is really cute. It was made for the same family member as the orange peplum top.
Serging on my new machine.
This is the results of my slip stitching on the inside of the front bands and the collar band.

Stitch in the Ditch or Not??????????

How many times have you decided to skip slip stitching and decided to stitch in the ditch? Well, I always stitch in the ditch when putting on waist bands.

If you don't know what I mean by "Stitching in the ditch" this is an example. It's after you've sewn on the band, flipped it to the opposite side and folded the 5/8" for slip stitching.

Make sure to overlap enough to catch the fabric when stitching. This is a photo of the opposite side where the fabric was overlapped enough to sew the band.

This is the top that I'm working on. After sewing the front bands to the shirt, I thought,  I'd  perfer stitching in the ditch than slip stitching both front bands and the collar band.

Guess what? This is as far as I got when I chickened out because I wanted to make sure the stitches didn't show.

Well, there are times when it is not best to short cut, but to do the right thing or find yourself using the seam ripper. That being said, if this was a print, stitching in the ditch would have been a serious option.

I don't know if I have ever seen it written, but my mom used the terminology. I'll check the net when finished. Ok, I checked and the term exists, especially in quilting. Do you stitch in the ditch?

Sleeveless Top!

This is view C of Simplicity 6130 made in a burnt orange cotton poplin with a round neck and a sash. The peplum has three pleats with a slant on the left side.

The top can be made with short sleeves or cap sleeves, with a wide deep v-neck or a slit type v neck, and a regular peplum. It was made for a family member.

It is exciting when the invisible zipper looks like the seam.

Simplicity 1961 in white rayon jersey knit with an altered front turned out to be kind of nice. I evened the front ties/tails for a different look and really like it. The tank top was made by tracing a RTW top that fits and adding a 5/8" seam allowance.

I also decided to cut out a dress which will be maded in the near future. Wearing white is a monthly requirement at my church, so I can't acquire enough outfits. It's worn during communion and during baptism.
